Editha House Renovation

Phoenix, Arizona
Commercial

Lovingly remodeled and repurposed, this 1962 four-story apartment building—a fine example of mid-century modern architecture— provides affordable lodging for cancer patients and their caregivers traveling to Phoenix for medical treatment.

The original apartments are reconfigured as guest rooms with private bathrooms and kitchens. The new ground floor encloses a lobby, living room, lounge and cantina, which extend to a landscaped patio. ADA accessibility standards were addressed throughout the renovation.

As a safe, dignified and comfortable home-away-from-home, Editha House relieves the emotional and financial challenges during a vulnerable time in a patient’s journey.

The work included new additional exterior windows on the north side of the building, and new paint, flooring, directional signage and artwork in the corridors. The renovation preserves and enhances the significant character of an important downtown building, with a careful eye and soft hand.
